1960s Vintage Black Americana Seated Boy with Watermelon Salt and Pepper Shakers, Japan
Rare, tall, ceramic salt and peppers, a sweet black boy shaker holds the watermelon shaker in his lap.
This is a wonderful set of vintage Japan black Americana watermelon salt and pepper shakers in absolute mint condition, and they are hard to find. The assembled set is a tall 4.5 inches by 2 inches wide. A cute little boy sits on a yellow stool in his green striped shorts and white shirt, his arms embracing the juicy watermelon in his lap. He has the most wonderful face with big eyes and bright red lips. His wavy black hair is topped with a pointed yellow hat, with three shaker holes on top. He holds the large slice of melon which looks like it has a few bites out of it! This watermelon slice is the second shaker, with two shaker holes. It measures 2 inches by 1.25 inches.
Both shakers are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The glaze is thick, glossy, and completely intact without even one bit of paint loss–amazing for something this old! There is a bit of crazing. The watermelon shaker has a brown paper (was originally white) label printed Japan. He has the original wood cork; it is missing from the melon.
These fabulous vintage 1960s Black Americana watermelon children salt and pepper shakers have been well cared for these last 50 or so years, their condition being perfect and pristine. They are hard to find, and are a must-have for any vintage Black Americana or vintage salt and pepper shaker collector!
