Superb Chinese Qing Guangxu Famille Rose 100 Butterfly Globular Porcelain Enamel Vase
Graceful bottle form with flared rim, decorated overall with vibrant Famille Rose butterflies in flight, with a floral band on the shoulder and a lappet border above the foot. 13 inches tall. Circa 1870s to early 1900s, Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty. Fabulous!
This late 19th to early 20th century Chinese Famille Rose porcelain vase is well potted with a rounded globular mid-section, densely enameled with butterflies in mid-flight in a wide range of vibrant tones of pink, blue, green, white, yellow, orange, and purple. The delicate butterflies fly in sharp contrast to the bright white field. The hand painted decoration is of impressive quality and skill, such a striking vase! The shoulder is decorated with a band of lotus scrolls bearing blooms and interspersed by iron red 'shou' characters. The gently flaring trumpet neck is also enameled with colorful butterflies, and the rim is decorated with a ruyi band. The short foot has a lappet band in pink, blue, red, and yellow enamels. Several gilt bands circle the form. Recessed base with Guangxu reign (1875 to 1908) six-character iron red mark. It is a large antique Chinese vase measuring 13 inches tall with a 4.25 inch base. The mouth flares to a 3 inch opening.
