An extremely scarce and desirable antique Art Deco playing card double deck set, two complete decks with original box, and extra cards. U.S. Playing Card Company Cincinnati, Ohio. Circa mid 1920s.

Complete unique Congress 606 Bridge decks with striking, highly detailed named character designs and beautiful gilt edges. Each deck has 52 cards including the rare sought after power witch crone ace of spades. Each has 3 extra cards, including a guarantee card. It also comes with its original 1920s embossed Gladstone red gilt box.

The named deck on the left is Ranee, a beautiful Art Deco lady witch in colorful festive attire including her tall witch hat. Shiny gilt ink accents include clouds in the sky, as well as dress details and the design frame. The border is a rich dark blue-black with a bright celestial star pattern. Beautiful! Her name is printed clearly at the bottom, and there is an artist signature in the left corner. There is also a USPC CO copyright mark in the right corner. The extra cards in this deck include the Congress card, Bridge table of points (revised 1926), and the Guarantee Card (used as an extra Joker). **There is also an extra Five of Spades with the corner cut, or crimped. This leads us to believe that this deck may have been an antique Magician's Card Deck, with this extra card used to mark the deck. (Crimps are techniques whereby part of a card is intentionally physically marked, creased, or bent to facilitate identification during an illusion.) Too cool!

The named deck on the right is The Butterfly, a striking Art Deco lady in a full skirt with a yellow butterfly floating near. The sweeping simple lines and high contrast colors with gilt frame are classic Art Deco styling. The border is a rich bright yellow-gold. Her name is printed clearly at the bottom, and there is an artist signature in the left corner stripe, Mollie Macmillan. There is also a USPC CO copyright mark. The extra cards in this deck include the Congress card, Bridge table of points (revised 1926), and a blank card. (We believe this deck was never used as it was one tight unit which needed careful separation when doing the card count.)

These antique U.S. Playing Card Company Art Deco card decks are in excellent condition with no creases, bends, tears, or stains to the cards. The colors are vibrant and crisp. The original double deck storage box is intact and sturdy. It shows age, creases, tears, stains, and wear. It reads:

GLADSTONE PLAYING CARDS
Russell Playing Card Company, New York

The Russell company purchased USPC CO card decks and distributed them in their name as the Gladstone line.

This is an amazing and super scarce antique 1920s Art Deco double named deck playing card set with box, an excellent example of early U.S. Playing Card Company antique bridge playing cards. Fabulous for the vintage playing card collector, bridge player, or Art Deco lover!
