Authentic Vintage Hawaii Wood Tiki Statue, Hand Carved Hawaiian Tiki God Sculpture, Vintage Hawaiiana Decor
This is an authentic vintage hand carved Hawaiian Tiki statue from the Big Island of Hawaii, inscribed on the bottom with the artist initials and "Hawaii 1991". This is a very detailed, high quality Tiki god sculpture and is one of a kind. This is not a mass produced tourist item! Fabulous vintage Hawaiiana.
Tiki carving is one of the oldest art forms known to man, and all original Tiki carvings are unique. We believe this menacing protective Hawaii Tiki god to be Ku, the God of War, as he is so fierce! The sculpture features so much detail, hand carved with knowledge of Polynesian patterns, proudly displaying the artistic creativity of the carver. Note the deeply carved striations, vertical squiggles, piercing eyes, and menacing teeth in its open mouth. In Hawaiian culture, statues carved with threatening expressions are often used to scare away evil spirits.
This fine vintage Ku Tiki god was hand carved from a solid piece of Hawaiian koa wood, then coated with a light, clear finish. He measures 13.5 inches tall, 4.25 inches at the base, tapering to 3.25 inches wide at the top. It is 3.75 inches deep and is quite heavy, weighing 2.2 pounds. The bottom is signed by inscription, "Hawaii 1991 TAD". It is in excellent vintage condition showing just minor light wear and finish loss. The wood is checking in several areas as shown in the photos.
The four major Hawaiian Tiki Gods are Ku the God of War, Lono the God of Fertility and Peace, Kane the God of Light and Life, and Kanaloa the God of the Sea. Ancient followers worshiped these Gods through prayer, chanting, and even human sacrifice.
This handsome vintage wood carved tiki statue will make a great addition to any antique Hawaiiana collection, simply wonderful to display in tropical decor!
