Hard to find striking vintage Japanese ceramic foo dog ashtray, by Stella China Japan ceramics, 1960s.

This vibrant gold guardian lion foo dog has nicely molded classic features and a strong pose, showing muscular countenance as he stands protectively over the round sphere, which traditionally represents the world or the home. The sphere is open on one side, with one cigarette prong. This beautiful vintage foo dog is meant to be a personal ashtray, for one person.

He is glazed in a brilliant glossy gold glaze and has a stunning presence. It is 4.5 inches tall and 4.25 inches wide. It is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. There are a few light wear spots on the gold glaze, and a bit of minor residue inside the sphere. There is no odor. The bottom retains the original 1960s gold and black foil label, "Stella China Japan". Stella China pieces are very hard to find.
