This is a vibrant and striking vintage Japanese pottery vase in a lovely color combination of celadon blue and light brown over an ivory field. The sculpted foo dog is in high relief with classic details including a fierce face, scrolling mane locks, and animated pose. The bulbous body has vertical incised ribs and it culminates in a tall fluted neck. Our photos show all aspects of this design as it moves around the form.
It measures 8.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide. The mouth has a 2 inch opening and the base is 3.25 inches. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. The inside is clean and appears to have never been used. The bottom is signed by the artist in embossed kanji text. There is one minor small spot of missing glaze which can be seen in the last photo.
This is an amazing vintage Asian foo dog shi shi lion vase. It will make a stunning statement in any room, and could be used in traditional feng shui placement for protection and good luck. Fine vintage Chinoiserie decor piece!
