1930s Antique Hawaiian Koa Wood Bowl, Heirloom Bowl, Hawaii Hand Turned Artisan Lathe Wood Bowl, Small Calabash Bowl, Signed Pat Corto
This is an excellent small antique lathe turned Hawaiian koa wood bowl, inscribed on the bottom by the artisan "Pat Corto, Honoka'a Hawaii, Koa". A superb, high quality, vintage antique Hawaii Hawaiiana decor bowl or small calabash serving bowl. Circa 1930s, a beautiful heirloom bowl.
This is a very scarce and wonderful example of antique Hawaiiana hand turned wood craft. The inscription on the bottom makes this extra special! Honoka'a is a small plantation era town on the east side of Hawaii island, north of Hilo. Pat Corto was an established and active wood turner during the 1920s-1930s. We have seen some of his other pieces, and this one is quite fine.
This antique wood bowl was turned from a solid piece of local Hawaiian koa wood, a lovely hardwood. Expertly crafted, hand turned on a wood lathe and sanded to a smooth, silky finish with lovely grain patterns. It appears to have never been used at the dining table but for display only as it is so perfect. It measures 4 inches wide and stands 1 inch tall. It is in absolute mint condition with no chips, cracks, restorations, or other blemishes. It is very old and very rare, especially in such pristine condition and with the artist identifying signature.
This antique hand turned Hawaiian koa wood luau calabash bowl will make a great addition to any antique Hawaiiana or wood bowl collection, and simply wonderful as a display bowl!
We have another antique Hawaiian koa bowl listed separately: https://www.coololdstuffforsale.com/2941-antique-koa-wood-serving-bowl-vintage-hawaiian-calabash-bowl-hawaii-luau-serving-bowl-vintage-hawaiiana.php
